Implications of the planned expansion of renewable energies according to the Osterpaket and EEG 2023

The German government expects gross electricity demand to reach 750 TWh in 2030, at least 80 percent of which is to come from renewables. To achieve this, the generation capacities must be expanded significantly more than in the past. According to the planned gross expansion, expansion quotas would have to be met from 2024 onwards, which for photovoltaics and onshore wind are significantly higher than the maximum historical values. The EWI analysis shows that this would require the construction of 5.8 wind turbines per day by 2030.
