Prof. Dr. Marc Oliver Bettzüge has been Professor of Economics, Energy and Sustainability and Director of the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) since 2007. In addition to his management duties, Prof. Bettzüge is primarily concerned with fundamental institutional and economic issues of the energy industry and energy policy. Since 2020, Prof. Bettzüge has been a member of the Council of Experts on Climate Change in accordance with the Federal Climate Change Act (KSG). From 2011 to 2013, Prof. Bettzüge was a member of the Enquete Commission “Growth, Prosperity, Quality of Life” of the German Bundestag.
After studying mathematics and economics at the universities of Bonn, Cambridge and Berkeley, Prof. Bettzüge earned his doctorate in economics at the University of Bonn. After his doctorate, he worked both as a researcher at the universities of Bonn and Zürich and as a top management consultant. Before his appointment at the University of Cologne, Prof. Bettzüge was a partner and managing director of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
