The Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) has a new Managing Director. From November 2019, Annette Becker will be part of the institute’s lead, which now consists of the managing director and the two directors Prof. Dr. Marc Oliver Bettzüge and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ketter. In particular, Becker will be responsible for the economic and administrative management of the institute, while the scientific management will remain with the directors.
“We are delighted that we have been able to recruit Ms. Becker, an experienced science manager, for the EWI,” says EWI Director Prof. Marc Oliver Bettzüge, who took over the management tasks temporarily at the beginning of 2019 and will continue in this position as second managing director. “We expect a great boost for the quality of our processes and thus indirectly an enormous strengthening of our scientific performance. We are very pleased that Mrs. Becker has become part of our EWI team”.
Becker (52) comes from the project management agency of the German Aerospace Center (DLR-PT) in Bonn, where she was Head of Competence Centers and Services. Her responsibilities there included the management and development of the service area and the four competence centres of the project executing agency. Prior to that, the manager held similar roles at the Forest Stewardship Council International, an international NGO in Bonn, and at a commercial law firm in Cologne. She was also Managing Director of the German-British Society in Berlin. Becker holds an Executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen and studied political science, geography and English at the Universities of Bonn, McGill Montréal and Mainz.
“The EWI stands for applied research, for the connection of science and practice. I am very much looking forward to working at this important interface and to working with the Institute’s scientists and staff,” says Annette Becker.
