In the study “„Fokusgebiete als Konzept der kommunalen Wärmewende “, EWI presents an approach of strategic municipal heat planning, which prioritizes specific heat supply techniques in an area. The concept of “focus areas” is an approach for efficient and strategic heat planning. Various actors are integrated into the municipal heat planning process. The implementation of focus areas can thereby take place formally or via informal measures.
In the study, a criteria catalog for the implementation of focus areas is developed. Thereby, the regional potentials of the energy supply and the energy demand are matched to the suitable heating technique and thus efficient heat supply solutions are identified. With the help of Levelized Costs of Heating (LCOH), different heating technologies are calculated, and the most cost-effective technology is identified for six sample regions.
