The report analyses potential hydrogen demand in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate and identifies industries that could be dependent on hydrogen to decarbonize their processes. In the first step, the economic structure and the specific natural gas demand of the manufacturing industry in both federal states are examined to identify economic sectors with high hydrogen demand.
In the second step, two scenarios – one with a focus on electrification and one with greater use of hydrogen – are used to examine the proximity of the demand regions to the planned hydrogen core network. The report identifies regions that potentially require hydrogen but do not have direct access to the core network.
