According to the coalition agreement between the CDU, CSU and SPD, the Heating Act (Heizungsgesetz) is to be abolished. In public discourse, the term “Heating Act” often refers to the amendment to the Building Energy Act (GEG), which came into force in October 2023. As part of the amendment to the Building Energy Act, tolerances for implementing the European Buildings Directive (EPBD) are to be exploited. The EWI analysis examines the differences between the current requirements in the GEG and the EPBD.
